Training
The MDE team has designed and implemented training workshops at UOE and
elsewhere in Vietnam. Workshops can range from one day to several
weeks. We welcome inquiries from private and public sector partners seeking to
develop and deliver short-term training and activities which meet their specific
needs.
Seminars
The MDE team has the capacity to organise and manage seminars and workshops
at UOE. Further, the MDE team invites regional and visiting economists to give
seminar presentations on a regular basic. We welcome inquires from private and
public sector partners seeking to arrange seminars and workshops which fit their
specific needs.
Consulting
The MDE team has a core of full-time young professionals with consultancy
experience throughout Vietnam. This course is supported by the accumulated
expertise of the teaching staff. There is also a network of foreign experts upon
whom the MDE team can draw for selective support. Finally, there is a lengthy
list of MDE team associates. As a consequence, the MDE team can place individual
consultants for short or extended periods. It can also put together teams to
undertake substantive assignments or to participate as local partners in project
bids.
Current consulting activities organized by MDE Consulting, the
advisory 'arm' of the Vietnamese-Dutch Project for MA Programme in Development
Economics, include the World Bank's Public Expenditure Review, October 1999 to
2000 and the National Committee for the Advancement of Women in Vietnam's
development of the second Plan of Action for Vietnamese Women.
We welcome enquiries from private and public sector partners wishing to
avail themselves of our consulting capacity.
Visiting Fellows Scheme
The MDE offers support to Vietnamese and non-Vietnamese
scholars engaged in applied economic research on Vietnam. Visiting fellows
are offered the use of the Project office facilities, the computer lab, and the
Library. The MDE can also provide assistance in the location of research
assistants, data, and other research inputs. No charge is made for this
service, but a statement of purpose must be submitted to the Project Office and
the offer of a visiting fellowship must be agreed by the Project
Executive. Currently, the MDE hosts two visiting fellows: Dr Ann
Bartholomew of South Bank University, London, UK, who is conducting research
on gender and economic development in Vietnam; and Dr John Thoburn of the
University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK, who is conducting research on the
textiles industry. Dr Ardeshir Sepehri of the
University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada will join as a visiting fellow early in
2001, and engage in research on Vietnam's macroeconomy.
