MOET calendar hours are determined by the Ministry, and include all hours of classroom lectures and exercises.  However, the MDE programme utilizes modern problem-focused learning techniques.  This means that MDE students are expected to be continually engaged in self-study, in addition to attending lectures. Course leaders assign students reading that supports and expands upon classroom lectures. Readings are either obligatory (such readings are copied and distributed to students) or recommended readings that help students to deepen their understanding. Obligatory readings form part of course examinations, while recommended readings do not.  Students are also expected to participate in team exercises, individual presentations, and classroom discussions.

For this reason, the minimum student workload hours are also noted above.  Student workload hours consist of expected hours of classroom lectures, minimum levels of student-led self-study, expected hours of exercises, minimum levels of reading, and and expected hours of assessment.  Note that students who only perform the minimum amount of student workload hours can only expect to obtain an average performance in MDE assessment exercises.

'Notional' European Credit Transfer System Equivalents are based upon the guidelines of the European Commission and indicate the approximate amount of work that a student must undertake for a course when that course is compared to European norms.
